We hold our annual medal competition just before interclub competitions begin. It's a great way to showcase to our friends and family what we have learned through the year.
It's a chance to have a run through our work in a fun and relaxed competition environment.
This day is perfect for new members to get a feel for what competitions can be like.
As a BjP member, the rules state that each individual/competitor can only compete in 2 interclub competitions per year.
Speers Point Physie hosts one annually and we attend another. We try to choose one close by to cut travelling costs for our members.
Junior Zone consists of girls competing between age groups of 5 - 12 years.
Each club from the Newcastle zone attends The Great Hall at the University of Newcastle.
Girls are placed in heats and then a selection is made to advance through to the semi-finals. From the Semi-Finals, it is then narrowed down to the Finals. From the finals the judges select placings. Those place-getters then compete at Junior Nationals which is held at the Quay Centre at Homebush.
(5 year olds are placed but don't attend Nationals)
When our Juniors are lucky enough to get a place at their Zone Competition they then compete at Nationals. The Structure is similar to Zone where they have heats, Semi-Finals then the final.
All Junior National Finalists from different Clubs all over Australia from their respective Zones compete. 5 places are then given to girls in each section (age group) and First place is announced as Champion Girl
Ladies Zone consists of ladies competing in sections, Beginner/Novice, Intermediate, Open Under 33 years and Open Over 33 years.
Each club from the Newcastle and Central Coast Zone attends Niagara Park Sports Centre at Niagara Park.

The Open Ladies Champions and Grand Champion from the previous year automatically progress to the Grand Champion Lady final as challengers. The place-getters from the Open Under 33 and Open Over 33 Finals compete in in Grand also. These ladies are unaware of their placing status until after they compete in Grand.
Only the winners of each section and the challengers have a chance to be titled Grand Champion Lady
Masters Day consists of Ladies in age groups Open Over 40, Open Over 50, Open Over 60 and now since 2023 they announced a new age group Open Over 70 - Wow so inspiring.
As this is classed as a national event, Ladies are automatically chosen from heats, semis then the Final. The winners of each age group are announced Champion Lady in their respective age groups.
Master Day is held at the Quay Centre at Homebush.
Seniors Day consists of girls and ladies between the ages of 13 and over 17 years of age. Just like Masters Day this is classed as a National Event also and competitors are automatically chosen from Heats, Semifinals, and then the final.
However. the finals are chosen but they don't compete on this day.
The Finalists from each section have the amazing opportunity to compete on the prestigious Sydney Opera House stage.
All age groups have the opportunity to compete in a team. From ages 5 years to open over 70.
Just imagine synchronized swimming on land, Eight girls/ladies compete on the floor together making sure every movement, arm, leg and timing of each routine is performed as one.
Teams are graded as B, A, or Champion Grade. Each Club is notified what grade they are in early in the year. When teams are performing, the floor can be divided up to 6 sections. Each section is B, A or Championship Grade. There can be up to 12 teams/clubs per section. Each Section is judged individually and if there is more than one section in the same grade the winning team from each section competes again to determine the overall winners.
Our Club Comp and Presentation Day is where we celebrate our members and acknowledge the hard work they have done.
We award our own Club Champions, Marching Champions, Dance awards etc. We also acknowledge outstanding members who can receive perpetual trophies.
Long-standing club members are also acknowledged and rewarded with service medals depending on how many consecutive years they've been a member at Speers Point Physie.
It's fun and a great day to mingle with family and friends and celebrate the Physie year.
Similar to Ladies Nationals, the 1st and 2nd place getters of each Open section continue through to the Grand Champion Girl Final. The Open Senior Champion winners from the previous year automatically progress to Grand as challengers.
The overall winner is announced as Senior Grand Champion Girl.
This event is the night of nights in BjP Physie. Whether we have a Speers Point Physie representative competing or not, it's always a wonderful display of physie to go along to and watch and be inspired.
